Recorded, Mixed and Edited by Phil Beer. Graphic Design by Brad Waters. Launched in the summer of 2006 the CD contains 17 tracks from the bands current repertoire. Many, like The Wiltshire Tempest, Red Flannel Drawers, Down By The Riverside, We Shall Not Be Moved, When The Saints Go Marching In, Nelly Grey and Lil’ Liza Jane have been firm favourites at Pixie Band dances for many years. Westward Ho! was found by Jason in a book of military pipe band marches and caught his eye due to it having the same name as a seaside town in North Devon. A friend of ours Ali Say who’s clever and can sight read played the tune whilst Mark recorded it onto minidisc. He later went away and ‘modified it, or some might say ‘pixiefied’ it to fit the D G melodeon and it soon became one of the band’s favourite tunes. The Shetland Two-Step is a tune from, you guessed it, Shetland!, Bob's Barndance is also known as the Tobermory Two-step and Waiting for a Partner also known as Looking for a Partner. This set is usually played at Pixie dances for ‘The Barn Dance’. Redwing is a popular song and dance tune, played here in a medley with Tavern in the Town which is a miner’s song from Cornwall and Silver and Gold which we often use for the dance ‘Grand Square’. Honest John (SOUND CLIP) is a tune and dance which has again been in the band’s repertoire for many years, played here as one of Bob’s arrangements which uses parts of Brighton Camp (The Girl I Left Behind Me). Nothing Over Sixpence in the Store was the original slogan for Woolworths when they first opened. They ran a television advert in 1960 using the slogan set to this tune and Jason’s Grandfather Jack Rice picked up the tune and played it on the mouthorgan. The present day Pixie band first heard the tune with the release of the Veteran CD Merrymaking. The Six Twenty Two-Step is the bands most recent tune. Originally written by Jimmy Shand and was the theme tune for The White Heather Club. Again, modified slightly by Mark to fit the ever awkward D G melodeon and also to make a rather nice 48 bar jig. The Patchwork Polka (SOUND CLIP) was learnt from a CD of the late Willy Taylor, fiddle player from Northumberland and The Oslo Waltz was found by Bill Murch on a Foster and Allen record. Bill also found The Shores Of Americay on a record of The Gallowglass Ceili Band and The Northlands was learnt by Bob from a Dick Black record and is also known as All The Way To Galway. Waiting for the Federals and St. Anne’s Reel were both learnt from a CD of Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham and the band have fond memories of it being Kath Mortimore’s favourite set of tunes which she referred to as ‘Waiting for Fred!’. Off To California is a well known hornpipe and can be found in the Fiddlers Tune Book. The Steam Boat is a traditional Devon tune from Stoke Fleming. Waves Of Tory is an Irish dance tune and been a favourite at Pixie dances for many years. The waves are meant to represent the waves often seen around the island of Tory off the coast of Donegal. This again is Bob’s arrangement using bits of The Minstral Boy which was originally a song by Thomas Moore, the tune being an irish melody The Moreen. The Sussex Bonny Breast Knot (SOUND CLIP) and The Devron Reel were introduced to the band by Ed and In The Toyshop was learnt from the playing of Dan Quinn. The tune was discovered by Martin Ellison and Roger Edwards on an LP of fairground organ music.
